Making Connections

Innovation 2009

Meeting new people and making connections provides high value to any business. Some even say
that many of the biggest successes happen as a result of networking and building relationships.
On Thursday, March 26th, the Kingston Technology Council combined professional development and
networking in an event specifically designed for our region's technology professionals and
organizations.

Held at the Holiday Inn on the Kingston waterfront, the event’s agenda focused on learning from
engaging industry professionals and expert advisors who provided insight into strategies to grow
your company, control your finances and foster collaborations and partnerships. Doug Girvin,
President of Stantive Technologies Group, David Perry, Managing Partner of Perry-Martel and Drew
Phillips, Director of Finance of Performance Plants Inc. were three of many experts who shared their
wealth of knowledge and professional advice on common business issues being faced in the current
economic climate. Recognized for his enthusiastic style and breadth of experience, Robert Wood,
CEO and President of 8020Info Inc. served as the moderator throughout the “Moving Your Product”
segment of the workshop.

“The event was truly fabulous. There was so much positive buzz,” says marketing strategy leader
Theresa Macbeth, President and Chief Strategy Officer of BOOM Strategy. “Everyone I bumped into
said they'd made great connections, and that's what the day was all about.”

Between speaker sessions, attendees had the opportunity to visit displays and exhibitors to view the
latest technology being developed in our region and the organizations that are making it happen.
The event was capped off by an Elevator Pitch Contest won by Shane Dunne of Dunne and
Associates. He has been awarded with free enrollment in a Leadership Management course, courtesy
of St. Lawrence College.

Innovation 2009 proved that building personal relationships and making connections is a
fundamental part of successful business practice. The event committee is already discussing next
year’s venue and program with the continuing objective to strengthen and bring together our growing
community of innovators.
